GOforChange

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

I wanted to pass along a new site that a friend from the CSBA passed along to me recently dealing with sustainable business. The site/movement is called GOforChange and you can see it here:

http://www.GOforChange.com.

It is essentially a website that presents stories of positive change in the Baltimore region. It includes articles, a social network, and discussion forums. They are also developing a marketplace to connect site visitors directly to local products and services.

Also check out the profile for Typecast Press. Their entry includes a picture that has the Orange Element coasters that we developed for our 5th Anniversary Party and that they produced for us!

Where We Do What We Do

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Yesterday was a great day off, but I know you’re all missing all the juicy information that I usually host on this blog everyday, so….here I go. Thanks to EJ again for passing along another winner. Now many of you know that with any luck we will be moving into a beautiful new office space within two months time. That’s why this link is so key for us–it both satisfies our curiosity about what other office spaces look like as well as gives us inspiration for our new space.

Wherewedowhatwedo.com is a great site that allows users of the site to upload images of their office space to show off to the rest of the world. I’m not sure, but we may be holding off on posting images of our office until we move into our new Fells Point office building! With any luck, that will be by the end of July!

Here’s one of my most inspirational finds: A STANDING DESK. Brilliant. Think of how many extra calories I could burn each day….

Brand New

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Sarah is awesome. She sent me a link yesterday that I thought was pretty cool, so I wanted to pass it along to you so that you brand lovers can check it out:

http://www.underconsideration.com/brandnew/

Brand New is a great blog that I am sure to add to my Google Reader. It’s mainly about something that I’ve written about in the past–refreshing a company’s visual brand. The best part is that it’s a great collection of old vs. new identity examples, many from major corporate brands but also some from local and regional brands as well.

Here’s one of my favorite examples - pretty shocking departure, and I actually like it. I think Ford needs a brand refresh to change my perception of the brand! If you read the post at Brand New about it, you quickly learn that it was an April Fool’s joke. Too bad….

Cool Resource

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Thank goodness for social media. Today I was catching up on reading some blogs using my Google Reader, one of which was Adweek’s Adfreak blog. I always enjoy reading this blog because it’s got lots of juicy bits on the world of advertising, which is where I cut my teeth in the creative world. If you’re not reading it and you’re in the marketing and advertising industry, you probably should be.

Today Adfreak pointed me to a site that I cannot believe I didn’t know about. It’s called Ads of the World, and it contains an archive (and blog) of the best and most interesting creative work of all time. And they truly do have ads from all over the world–including Baltimore and Washington DC! Oh yeah, I think their blog would be a worthwhile add to your Google reader as well!

Here are a couple of my cool finds from this morning (as always, click to expand them):

I Love Posters

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I like to design them, collect them, look at them, talk about them, think about them. I even dream about posters sometimes. Over the years, as a result of my pursuit of the perfect poster collection, I’ve amassed a great library of knowledge about posters that I thought I’d share with you. Enjoy:

What’s On Your Desktop?

Monday, April 28th, 2008

They say your computer desktop can say a lot about who you are as a person. And since that’s the case, you may want to do something about that ‘default’ desktop you’re currently using…

Don’t worry, Desktoptopia has you covered.

Desktoptopia is a great new service that allows you to get served fresh new desktop designs whenever you want. You can actually set how frequently you want your desktop to change also. It’s a very cool feature.  Here’s the one I’m rockin’ right now:

I’m going to try to recruit the gang at Orange Element to design a few and submit them, just like we did with Threadless!
