New Work :: Contemporary Museum

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

The Contemporary Museum right here in Baltimore, Maryland recently opened their exhibition called Cottage Industry with celebrates the relationship between art and business. Orange Element was fortunate enough to be a part of this exhibition by creating the Cottage Industry catalog, a 64 page book that accompanies the exhibit and gives an in-depth look at the artists responsible for the work.

Congrats to Andrea Campbell who worked very hard on this book. It looks amazing.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out Cottage Industry, please do. It is well worth a visit–and while you’re there, pick up a copy of the book. To reach the Contemporary Museum, give them a call at 410.783.5720 or visit their Web site at http://www.contemporary.org/.

New Green Technology

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Aaron passed me a link this morning that got me pretty excited. It’s about a technology that I didn’t really know much about, but that looks really promising for generating energy in an efficient, clean way using municipal solid waste (garbage) and construction and development waste.

It seems our friend and former client Jason Hardebeck, has recently been appointed Director of Market Development for a company called Ze-Gen, that is the leader in bringing this technology mainstream.

Here’s a cool clip from their recent stint on the hit show Invention Nation on the Discovery Channel that helps shed some light on what these folks are bringing to the table:

Nice job, Jason. Good luck spreading the word about this technology - it looks very promising!

South River Rebrand

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

Recently, as part of our relationship with The Brick Companies, Orange Element was tasked with creating a completely new brand for South River Golf Club. The Annapolis-area course, one of Maryland’s finest, was about to undergo a transition from a full public golf course to a private club. In doing so, it was necessary for us to create a new brand that was going to be distinguishable from the original public course, driving home all the great changes that were about to take place. At the same time, it was essential that we set the proper tone for the private club–one that would attract the right target audience and encourage them to join.

I think the work that resulted for “The Golf Club at South River” was fantastic. At one point during the identity review, the client even stated that it was the “best logo [he] had ever seen!” That’s great feedback! Once the identity was settled upon, we started to integrate the brand into multiple mediums and channels including apparel, signage, collateral, environmental graphics, golf balls and more.

Tonight is a big night for The Golf Club at South River. It’s Founder Day. Founder Day is a grand event where prospective members come to actually secure their membership. They have the opportunity to be among the few that are the original members of The Golf Club. Those are some lucky folks–I have played there many times and it is a GREAT golf course.

And now, without further ado here is some of the work:

OE Client, TBC, In Today’s BBJ

Friday, May 9th, 2008

One of our clients, who also happens to be one of the folks I mentioned in yesterday’s post about the Chesapeake Bay Foundation event was featured in an article in today’s Baltimore Business Journal today. The article was about the efforts The Brick Companies has made both at their headquarters but also at their portfolio properties to create a sustainable environment. In the article Lex Birney discusses what a great impact sustainability has had on his business–even from an employee recruitment standpoint. I’m glad to see them getting even more recognition for being what Kim Coble of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation calls “a very environmentally progressive company.”

Oh, and did I mention that one of our strategic partners, Sawmill Marketing & Public Relations, is the one responsible for getting TBC the coverage in the BBJ? Nice work! Check out Sawmill here and here!

Golf With Friends

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Aaron and I woke up at the crack of dawn this morning to play 9 holes of golf at The Golf Club at South River down in Edgewater. I have to admit, sometimes life is really, really good. What an amazing day for some golf - thanks to our friend Charlie Birney for inviting us out to play today. He puts together a group of people on Fridays in the summer to play some golf, network and raise money for charity. If you’re interested in playing, shoot me an email - we can always use new people for the ‘Friday Morning Irregulars.’ It’s $15 to play and it all goes straight to charity.

Speaking of Charlie–he’s an amazing guy. He’s both a client and a friend. As the Managing Director & Managing General Partner of The Brick Companies, Charlie does a lot of really important things for the company, but perhaps some of his most important work is for The Brick Companies Foundation and the company’s sustainable initiatives.

We also want to congratulate Charlie for being elected President of the National Golf Course Owners Association! It’s a huge honor and we know Charlie is going to be great for that organization. If you’re interested, Golf Course Industry Magazine just did a feature about Charlie in their latest issue and you can read it HERE.

Cool Poster Concept

Monday, March 17th, 2008

For some clients, we do everything and anything. The Brick Companies is one of those clients. We weren’t surprised when they called us and asked us to design a poster for placement at their golf courses, marinas and headquarters location advertising their Easter Egg Hunt event.

I think the concept came out really nicely, and for some reason every time I look at it, I crack up.
