Make Something Cool Everyday

If there is anyone reading who went to art school, chances are you were given some type of assignment that challenged your ability to solve one problem in as many unique ways as you could come up with. I remember a book binding teacher who gave us an overnight assignment to create a book showing 100 different ways to manipulate a piece of paper and we needed to show a physical example of each. While staying up all night was not my idea of being creative, the exercise (and the time crunch) forced us to think. It forced us to use our heads and our hands to see what they were capable of discovering.

This morning I ran across a similar challenge that shares the goal of testing the spontaneous, creative capabilities of our minds and our hands. Brock Davis is a Mineapolis-based artist and musician who decided to start a project called “Make Something Cool Everyday” and in his project he did exactly that. Below are just a few of the things he created and you can see more of his work here. If you are ever feeling like you’ve fallen into a creative slump maybe give a challenge like this a try, you might be surprised what you come up with.
