It’s time for our favorite hour of the week again… Font Hour!!! This time we will be opening font hour to all our friends and followers for a chance to win a limited edition print designed with the winning typeface. Here is how Font Hour will work:
Send us the name of one font you think is exceptionally great by Friday (11th) at 8am. You can send them to info@orange-element.com, leave a comment on our facebook fan page, or send a tweet to @orange_element.
On Friday we will print each submitted font and spread them across a table. We will weigh each ligature and x-height to determine the ultimate Font Hour champion and that chosen font will be used to design a series of posters for our ReStoreFront series hanging in our front windows. The submitter of the winning font will receive a smaller print of their favorite posters.
Some past Font Hour winners include:
You can submit any font you like! In our August Font Hour Andy submitted a font made from packaged meat! Dig through your computer for fonts that you love but always forget to use or find something completely new. Choosing a font under $25 will increase your chances of winning; we believe even inexpensive fonts can be beautiful when paired with strong design principals.
Here are a few sites that offer free or inexpensive fonts:
dafont
urbanfonts
bittbox/fonts
abduzeedo
creative nerds
bluevertigo
We love Font Hour because it is a great excuse to look at different typefaces and helps avoid a mundane overuse of the more common typefaces. We will announce the winner Friday afternoon with photo’s from the voting. Happy font hunting!
Here is another great source for inexpensive fonts:

Thanks Luke! Nice pick, we’ll add Advent to the mix.
Another favorite resource for new typefaces, not the cheapest but they feature new faces designed by artists such as Si Scott and Luke Lucas:
