Design Connects

I was in Dumbo, Brooklyn a few months back and saw an amazing limited edition print by Susanne Cerha of Silo Design. I recently circled back to the website and wanted to share what I found. Silo and JRVisuals have created a public interactive art project. It’s a lot of fun for type geeks and very educational for those that are not. You can design, scale and rearrange character segments to create your own piece of artwork. Mine is shown above. I wanted to see what would happen if I started on the left and connected all of the pieces in order. While I prefer Susanne’s design, this was a fun exercise. An interesting fact: the letter segments are from the Stern Pro typeface which was the first to be released as a digital and metal version. Long live the typesetters! You can save and email your design to friends or other type geeks when you are finished. Get started: www.typeisart.com
