Take Action Against Poverty

Today Orange Element Insights is taking part in Blog Action Day.  Blog Action Day is a viral effort that has been spreading like wildfire through online channels and by word-of-mouth.  Essentially the initiative brings together literally thousands of bloggers to encourage them to devote one day per year to discuss the same issue.  The hope is that the blogosphere has the strength in numbers to change the course of discussion and signifcantly raise awareness, discuss solutions and inspire action. It’s a magnificent concept and we’re proud to be one of the close to 10,000 blogs around the world participating.

This year’s topic is poverty. Poverty is a crucial topic because it is considered the underlying cause of death for more people in this world than any other single factor.  There is no way that I can describe the problem that would do the magnitude of the problem justice – so instead I’m going to point you to a few resources you can go to online to learn more about the issue:

Wikipedia
Make Poverty History
Girl Effect
End Poverty by 2015
Stand Up Against Poverty
WhiteBand.org
Oxfam
Moving Up USA

If I have to pick one thing that I’ll leave you with as it relates to poverty – my message to all on Blog Action Day, if you will - it would have to be the idea that we can all do something.  This is a massive problem, but it’s not out of our reach.  If everyone did something every day, big or small, we could tackle this thing.

Need some ideas?  Below are 88 ideas that you can put into action TODAY to help bring us closer to eliminating worldwide poverty.  My favorite is “donate.” It’s so easy, but so effective.  If you have it to spare, donate it.

Now go take ACTION.
