Newest Orange Element (Sustainable) Fun Day Recap

Yesterday ruled. Our latest edition of Orange Element Fun Day had us visiting the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s headquarters for a guided tour of the facility. It was a great experience both because it furthered our knowledge of sustainable building (which will help when we move into our new office) but also because it really expanded our understanding of an organization that we already respected deeply.

In case you have never heard of the Philip Merrill Environmental Center, let me tell you a little bit about what we learned yesterday. The Center serves as both the CBF’s headquarters as well as an interactive, educational model for people around the world interested in sustainability. It is among the world’s most sustainable buildings and was actually the first building in the world to receive a Platinum LEED certification from the US Green Building Council. Amazing. Rather than having me recap all the things that make this building sustainable, please visit THIS page on CBF’s site to learn more.

Here are some pictures of our journey through the Merrill Center (as always, click them to see them full size - it’s worth it!):

The tour was amazing, so thank you to all the staff at CBF for all you did to show us around. And thanks, Alison for setting it up. I have decided that my new aspiration in life is to one day become one of the volunteer tour guides at CBF.

After the tour, we headed over to see our friends at The Purple Tooth, a sustainable wine bar in Annapolis. You may remember from my Addy recap, but we designed their logo and won a Gold Addy for it this past year. They have created a great concept - and you couldn’t meet two nicer people than Emmy and Maureen, the owners. Thank you both for taking good care of us last night. If you haven’t gone, you really need to go check it out next time you’re in Annapolis.

Here are some pictures of our visit there:

What an amazing day!
