Andy Bonner and I had a very special surprise delivered to the office last week from another design and branding firm originating in London. The folks at Pentagram have a portfolio of work that stretches over 35 years and includes some of the best brands in the world including one of Orange Element’s clients, Citi, as well as the New York Jets, Saks Fifth Avenue, Lands End, United Airlines and many more.
As a celebration of their recent successes, the firm recently published the Black Book, an 800-page compilation of their recent work. The book is a compilation of over 400 projects from the last several years, arranged in alphabetical order, like a dictionary, and printed on Bible paper, complete with tabbed sections and ribbons for bookmarking. It includes all form of their work, from architecture to graphics, buildings to websites, branding to signage, interiors, packaging, exhibitions, interfaces, furniture, products, brochures, magazines, and houses.
The firm recently had a contest on their blog in which 50 lucky people were able to win one of these limited run books by posting a comment to the post announcing the book. Thanks in part to quick Google Reader reflexes, both Andy and I were able to be one of those 50 people! The only other people that will get their hands on this book are potential Pentagram clients and friends of the firm so we consider ourselves very lucky. It’s a beautiful book — if you would like to come see, feel free to stop by the shop sometime and check out our copy.

You scooped me, Garrett! I have a post half-written that I was going to (hopefully) complete today about my own experience with the Black Book. I think I’ll still put it up, but nice work being quick on the draw.
It’s an amazing piece of work, isn’t it?
